This is one nifty profile created using Tasker. Till yesterday I used to follow the same old regular path that every guy used to follow on his/her phone whenever thought of having some music/video but not from today. Yes, playing music/video over earphones usually takes 3 steps. After Plugging in the earphones should unlock the screen then head over to the app drawer, scroll down the list of apps – find and open. So, thinking of this I then cut short the number of steps to 1. How? Using Tasker.
The profile which we going to create in Tasker app will fetch a list of ‘media apps’ on screen to choose as soon as we plug in the earphones. Simply tap on the desired app to open.
How-to? (No Root Required)
1. Open Tasker. Don’t have then download it from here.
Create a Scene
2. This is simple just navigate to SCENES tab, tap the “+” plus button at bottom right and name the new scene as “Media Select” and tap the right button next to it. Now in Scene Edit screen – drag the rectangle to specify an area for the popup/dialog to show (691×409). Now tap the ‘zoom out’ button at bottom right and tap the “+” button at bottom center to add an ‘Element’.
3. Choose “Menu” form the list. Let the name and other settings under UI as it is. Navigate to ITEMS tab > Tap “+” button at bottom > Action > App > Load App > “Google Play Music”
Again tap the “+” button at bottom > Action > App > Load App > “MX Player”. Repeat the same for adding other apps. After adding apps to the menu get back to Scene Edit screen. Now tap the back button at left-side top corner to save and exit.
Long-press on the scene we created to change the name. Name it as “Media Select”
Create a Profile
4. Tap the “+” button at bottom right corner > State > Hardware > Headset Plugged > Type : Any and tap the back button at left side top corner. Now name the task as “Media Select” and tap the right button. Now in “Task Edit” screen tap the “+” button at bottom > Scene > Show Scene. Tap the search button under “Name” and select the “Media Select” scene. Next under “Display As” option choose “Dialog, Dim Behind.”
Now tap the back button at left-side top corner to save and exit. Long-press on the profile we created to change the name. Name it as “Plugged IN”.
That’s it, now its a testing time. Get back to your home screen, lock the device. Plug in your ear phones – choose the app from the popup/dialog that appears on your screen and play. Nice isn’t it.
To enhance the popup/dialog a bit more like the one in the above image. Add a button, label it as “Dismiss” and on tap action – “destroy/hide” the scene “Media Select”. The background color and all are upto you, just play with the options under UI. Use the Zoom out/in options to see how your edited scene looks like.
